Guided Inquiry: The Science Fiction film
To identify with the camera is to identify with the constituting force of the cinematic text; that which makes the spectacle seen.
1) Using Baudry and Vertov, analyze how the cinematographic apparatus aligns you with the text of Blade Runner. In terms of identification, what does the camera say about you as you watch the film?
2) Opening sequence: what does it mean to present the eye as the subject of this shot? Provide evidence to supplement your analysis.
3) Using Blade Runner as your primary text, post a short response that analyzes the rhetoric of science fiction film. Discuss at least three other science fiction films to supplement your argument: what are their shared features? What is different? Why?
