Proposal for analyzing “Tell Me How It End”
1. writing a paper mixing your own opinions, feelings, and experiences with immigration combined with analytical commentary about Tell Me How it Ends
2. I suggest you try to write in the style of Valeria Luiselli — mixing the personal with the political/analytical. Perhaps you could even try responding to one or more of the questions that she uses to structure her book.
3. Your analytical paper should be 7-8 pages in length, MLA format, double-spaced, typed in 12 point Times font, with one-inch margins. And remember it should be written as a paper, with well developed paragraphs.
First part: brief introduction of the book. I will also give the road map of the following paper. A great thesis statement is very important.
Second part: Write my own opinions and feelings about the issue of Mexican child immigration and the status quo mentioned in the book. Analyze how “Tell Me How It Ends” humanizes these young migrants and highlights the contradiction between the idea of America as a fiction for immigrants and the reality of racism and fear—both here and back home.
Third part: Analyze some related actual social situation and raise more questions on issues such as national security, legal immigration systems, gun control and community segregation, such as Central American children at the border, Muslims, black communities on the streets, and even Immigrants with legal status in their own communities. The journey of ManuLópez is not only a coincidence of emotion.
Final part: conclusion. I will have the final word on the issues I have raised in the paper, and demonstrate the importance of the ideas and indicate new view of the subject.
